Job Summary

We are seeking an experienced and strategic professional to lead our Internal Control function. The Head of Internal Control is pivotal in ensuring robust governance, risk management, regulatory compliance, and internal audit practices across the organization. This role will ensure the integrity of our financial and operational processes while supporting the organization's long-term success and compliance posture.

Responsibilities
  • Develop and execute a comprehensive, risk-based internal audit plan annually.
  • Evaluate the adequacy and effectiveness of internal controls and recommend improvements.
  • Conduct routine and ad-hoc risk assessments across all departments and functions.
  • Maintain thorough documentation of audit activities, findings, and recommendations.
  • Coordinate with external auditors to ensure effective and efficient audit coverage.
  • Lead and oversee internal investigations, fraud detection, and special audits.
  • Assess compliance with regulatory requirements and prepare monthly statutory renditions/returns.
  • Participate in Audit Committee meetings and present findings and reports.
  • Identify process inefficiencies and recommend process improvements for enhanced operational performance.
  • Lead the enterprise risk assessment initiative and maintain a comprehensive risk register.
  • Review policies and procedures regularly to ensure compliance with current regulations and industry best practices.
  • Implement and drive the anti-fraud campaign across the bank.
  • Monitor action plans to resolve internal control deficiencies and ensure timely implementation.


Requirements
  • HND / B.Sc. in Information Technology, Information Systems, Mathematics, Accounting, Banking & Finance, or related field.
  • Minimum of 10 years’ experience in Internal Control within a Mortgage Bank, Microfinance Bank, or financial institution.
  • Strong managerial and leadership experience in a similar role.
  • Deep understanding of regulatory requirements and mortgage banking operations.
  • Proficiency in risk management frameworks and internal audit methodologies.
  • Excellent problem-solving, analytical, and communication skills.
  • Professional certifications (e.g., ACA, ACCA, CIA, CISA) will be an added advantage.
